Payroll employment usually increases in Region 1 (Clatsop, Columbia, and Tillamook counties) in the late spring. Seasonal industries such as construction and leisure and hospitality add workers as the weather improves. Employment so far in 2013 has been up about 600 jobs over the year on a seasonally adjusted basis. The region has added back some of the jobs lost because of the recession. Seasonally adjusted unemployment rates are at about the same level as one year ago.
